KI 0186 The Kopinor licence agreement and copyright clearance (reading lists)
(updated )
Part of the user guide for the reading list system Leganto.
See also the page about Digitization of excerpts in reading lists (book chapters and journal articles) (KI 2982).
According to the Kopinor Agreement we have the rights to use up to 15 % of the pages of a book, or one article from a journal issue per course/semester as (digitized) study literature. All book excerpts that are digitized for this use, must be registered at Kopinor every time it is used. It is possible to apply for extended clearance in these cases:
a single chapter exceeds 15 % of the page count
a book is out of print
It is up to the rights holder to decide whether we are granted extended rights clearance, and there is no guarantee that permission will be granted even if an excerpt was approved in a previous semester. If the application is denied, the library will contact the list owner(s) and provide information. If desired, the excerpt can still be shortened to 15% and uploaded to the reading list.
The digitization staff at the university library registers and applies for rights clearance for the material that is to be digitized.
To request digitization of book excerpts and articles, tag the reading list citation with 'Digitized excerpt', and add the correct page span (KI 2982).
